Even the best roofs don’t last forever.

Years of sun, ice, rain and wind take their toll, and eventually, moisture will creep into hidden cracks and gaps. Mold will silently spread on unseen surfaces. You’ll find yourself shivering in the winter and sweating in the summer, because inadequate insulation isn’t protecting you from the weather.

Or sometimes that roof is just ugly. Hey, we all start to sag and wobble a little with age, right? It’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Whether the problem is structural or cosmetic, you can’t ignore it forever. Eventually you’ll have to make a decision.

Do you need a new roof? Or would a re-roof be a better choice? While a new roof can be more expensive than a re-roof, as much as 80 percent of its cost can be recouped when you sell your home or business. So it’s an investment into your home or business that boosts curb appeal and increases resale value.

Wiggins Roofing is a full service roofing company that specializes in residential and commercial roofing, and we can help you make the right choice. We pride ourselves in making the roofing process simple and easy. We take the worry away!

Installation On New Construction Or An Existing Building

Your new house or business is only as reliable as the roof that goes over it.

That’s why you need a roof you can trust.

Roof installation involves building the rafters and the ridge, installing the facia and the soffit, building a dormer and building other structural elements. It also means installing the roof’s framework, underlayment and covering.

Materials for a new roof range from asphalt shingles to clay and concrete tiles, from cedar to slate, from metal to composite materials. The process can include everything from laying felt and shingles on a residential roof to rolling TPO sheets on a commercial roof.

Wiggins Roofing starts a new construction roofing project by carefully inspecting the building envelope. We’ll determine what roof type and system (including the deck, insulation and membrane, or roofing material) is best. We’ll consider the weather and other conditions to design a roofing system that meets your performance, insulation and slope needs.

You deserve an energy-efficient system that will last many years to come!

You’ll get a proposal that details the projected cost, timeline, materials used, installation methods, and how the roof can affect your energy usage. Once the contract is signed, installation can begin!

Once installation is complete, another inspection will make sure everything was done the right way. Wiggins won’t cut corners!

Re-Roof

Replacing the roof on an existing structure means doing a complete roof tear-off or an overlay (a.k.a re-roof).

Wiggins Roofing can install an additional roof covering over your existing roofing material without removing the layer that’s already there. The old shingles will cushion the new ones and act as a secondary barrier against wind and water.

A well-done re-roof job is attractive and should last for many years—and it costs a lot less money and takes less time than an entirely new roof.

What are the downsides? That extra layer adds weight, which can impact the structural integrity of your roof. If the original roof shingles are losing granules and you put new shingles over them, the structure may not be able to bear the stress of an extra layer.

Also, if your roof is uneven, adding a layer of fresh shingles won’t help! Ask your Wiggins Roofing representative what to do if years of wear and tear have left you with an uneven roof.

Finally, there may be weak spots in the underlayer that should be reinforced or replaced. If the flashings around the sidewalls and roof penetrations are compromised, we may not be able to see those issues. When we’re doing a complete roof tear-off, we’ll easily detect whether your existing roof structure is rotted or otherwise damaged.

If you are certain that there is no sheathing rot or water damage, an overlay/re-roof might be the way to go. And in the short-term, a re-roof is less expensive than a complete roof tear-off since there’s no need to dispose of old roofing materials. You’ll even get the same shingle warranty!

Roofing Repairs

That small, discolored spot on the ceiling may not look like much, but it could be the only clue that there’s a rotting roof over your head.

Even minor roof damage can become a massive problem if it’s not repaired quickly. Wiggins Roofing will keep your family safe and dry by repairing your roof before little problems become big ones!

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you notice broken or curled shingles, if shingles are losing granules, or if flashing (zinc or steel material that keeps water away from chimneys, dormers, and where walls meet) is coming loose or starting to curl. Or if a few shingles blew off in the last winter storm, that means you’ll have a leak soon (if you don’t already).

Complete Roof Tear-Off

A complete roof tear-off, or roof replacement, might be the best course of action if your decking or underlayment are in bad shape. The Wiggins Roofing process involves tearing off and replacing everything on the roof down to the deck.

A complete roof tear-off gives you a chance to upgrade. Ask us about your goals and we’ll steer you in the right direction. For example, you might ditch your old felt underlayment for a more durable synthetic one.

So what does the process look like? First, we remove and discard damaged materials. Once your roof is naked, we’ll examine the structure of the roof and make any necessary repairs. This means checking for any cracks or leaks and where mold, mildew and rot can take hold. Finally, we’ll install new materials and components.

A tear-off typically costs more than a re-roof, but remember — that new roof will add value to your home or business’s resale value. And your new roof can last up to 30 years — more than the expected life of an overlay.

Insulation

A poorly insulated home or business will lose a lot of its warmth — much of it through the roof. In the hot summer months, cold air can also escape from an old, poorly-insulated roof.

Wiggins Roofing knows insulation. Roof insulation can improve energy efficiency, saving you money on your heating and cooling bills. In fact, insulating your roof or attic can keep your business or home at a pleasant temperature year-round.

We use the right materials for your local weather conditions. We’ll also use the right materials for your goals. For example, blown-in or spray foam insulation is a popular choice to fill in all the little nooks and crannies where air can escape. But it takes a licensed professional to get the job done right, without hazardous particles contaminating the air.

Flat Roof System

Low-slope roofs, a.k.a “flat roofs,” are a great choice for commercial shopping centers, warehouses, schools and apartment buildings. They’re easy to install over large surface areas, and they will deliver many years of excellent performance.

Flat roof systems aren’t common in home construction because many people assume water is more likely to pool than it is with a pitched roof. Unless you live in a very rainy or snowy region, you don’t need to worry about that. “Flat” roof systems (in spite of their name) actually slope between five and 15 degrees. That means water can easily drain via eaves or drainage outlets.

Wiggins Roofing can handle installation using common materials common in flat-roof systems, including thermoplastic membranes (PVC or TPO), rubber membranes (EPDM), metal and vents.

Metal Roofs

Metal roofs are getting more and more popular for homes and businesses these days. In fact, about 15 percent of all roofing installations are metal or built-up roof systems.

Why are they getting so popular? For one thing, metal roofs can last 70 years or longer (depending on the type of metal used, the local climate and the quality of the installation).

You may have an idea what a metal roof looks like, but you should know there are now shingle-style metal roofing products that have the same look as traditional asphalt shingle roofs. So if you want long-lasting performance and a traditional-looking roof, don’t rule out metal.

Oh — and if you’ve heard that metal roofs can be noisy in the rain, that isn’t necessarily true! Wiggins Roofing can install your roof over plywood sheathing and the right underlayment, giving you a long-lasting and attractive roof that won’t make any more noise during a rainstorm than a traditional roof.
